The Super Falcons kicked off their 2024 Paris Olympic Games campaign on a challenging note, facing a tough Brazilian side in their opening match. Despite an impressive performance at the 2023 FIFA World Cup and riding high on an eight-game unbeaten streak, Nigeria couldn’t secure a victory in Bordeaux.

The match started promisingly for Nigeria, who created several scoring opportunities early on. However, it was Brazil’s Gabi Nunez who found the net first, just eight minutes before the end of the first half, putting the Super Falcons at a disadvantage going into the break.

In the second half, the Super Falcons intensified their efforts, aiming to equalize. Coach Randy Waldrum made several strategic changes, introducing fresh legs to bolster the attack. Unfortunately, the Brazilian defense held firm, denying Nigeria any clear-cut chances to level the score.

As the Super Falcons regroup and prepare for their next challenge, they will face world champions Spain on July 28, followed by a match against Japan on July 31. In other Group C action, Spain emerged victorious against Japan, while in Group B, the US defeated Zambia 3-0. Meanwhile, France secured a 3-0 win over Colombia in Group A.

Stay tuned as the Super Falcons strive to bounce back and make their mark in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
