The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Abdullahi Isa as the new Head Coach of the Supersand Eagles. Joining Isa in the backroom staff are Christopher Kadiri as Assistant Coach and Bashar Samaila as Goalkeepers’ Trainer. This new coaching crew is tasked with leading the Supersand Eagles as they prepare for their first international competition in five years.
The immediate challenge for Isa and his team is the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match. The Supersand Eagles will travel to Nouakchott to face Mauritania in the first leg of the qualifier on Saturday. This marks Nigeria’s return to international beach soccer since their withdrawal from competitions following a disappointing performance at the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay.
Isa, a former goalkeeper and assistant coach of the Supersand Eagles, brings valuable experience to his new role. He will be leading a squad that includes seasoned players such as Victor Tale and Emeka Ogbonna, alongside Arome Isah, Adams Taiwo, Emmanuel Ohwoferia, Godwin Tale, Egan-Osi Ekujimi, Chidozie Frank, and Hassan Abdullahi.
The match will be officiated by an Egyptian team led by main referee Hany Farouk El-Sayed Eleraky, with Ahmed Mohamed Elwan Nofal and Ibrahim El-Sayed Mahgoub as assistants, and Khaled Mohamed Elewa as the timekeeper. Moroccan El Mansouri Taha will serve as the commissioner.
The return leg of the qualifying match is scheduled to take place in Nigeria on Saturday, 27th July. The Supersand Eagles are determined to make a strong comeback on the international stage and aim for success under their new leadership.
